New paper in Frontiers in Marine Science
23/01/2025
Time series stations are temporally resolved datasets that provide one of the most valuable tools scientists have to characterize ocean climate, biogeochemistry, and ecosystem change. (International Group for Marine Ecological Time Series, 2017).
However, the landscape of devices, platforms, and networks used to observe our oceans are inherently complex. To make it a little easier to navigate for early career ocean professionals, I wrote this publication:
Navigating the current landscape of ocean observations: an overview from platform infrastructures to networks related to ocean time series. Front. Mar. Sci. 11:1363863.

Launching our ECOP Germany, Austria, and Switzerland Project
the Wellenbrecher Podcast
01/01/2025
The project „Wellenbrecher“ (Engl. “Breakwater”) gives a voice to different people who are active in the UN Ocean Decade within German-speaking countries. The project kicks off with a podcast that interviews people ranging from decade committee members to individuals who are connected to the ocean. We introduce our guests and how their work or industry contributes to a sustainable transformation, to the decade challenges, and ask for specific examples of how other individuals can get involved to contribute towards the UN Ocean Decade. In addition, online community meet-ups “Kaffeejause” are organized, which allows listeners to ask questions to recent podcast guests. Our vision is that the podcasts serve as a basis for conversation and future events such as panel discussions or live events.
Let's create deep conversations to raise awareness for the UN Ocean Decade!
You can listen to Wellenbrecher on our Website or wherever you listen to podcasts (e.g., Spotify, Apple).
Enjoy!

New paper in Scientific Reports
27/11/2024
I am a co-author of a new paper in the journal Scientific Reports, which investigated the links between DOM and microbes at the time-series station Boknis Eck in the southwestern Baltic Sea. The data reveals that bacterial biomass production intensifies towards summer following the phytoplankton spring bloom and warming, especially very high temperatures in summer, enhances stratification and bacterial biomass production despite long-term reduction in nutrient input.

The publication has also been referenced in a press report from GEOMAR (German and English), mdr WISSEN (only German) and TAZ (only German). The links are included below.
Launch of Blue Capacity Development
11/11/2024 - 15/11/2024
BlueCaD has held its first in-person course specifically targeting 15 ECOPs from and/or based in the Mediterranean region (from Southern Europe, Northern Africa, and Western Middle East). The training was supported by Ocean Teacher Global Academy and hosted at the AquaBioTech Group facilities in Mosta, Malta from 11-17 November 2024. For more information, please click here.
Moving to Stockholm
01/09/2024
I traded in the warm, dry weather of French Catalonia for the vibrant city of Stockholm and started a new position at the Department of Environmental Science at Stockholm University in Sweden to focus on the impacts of ocean acidification on the biogeochemical and microbial dynamics in the Eurasian Arctic Ocean under principal investigator Dr. Birgit Wild.
Back to the Arctic without actually going to the Arctic...
New paper in Organic Geochemistry
15/07/2024
Shortly after the GRC, my new paper is now published in the journal Organic Geochemistry. Here, we investigated the links between DOM and microbes at the Microbial Observatory Laboratory Arago (MOLA) time series station in the NW Mediterranean Sea.

Great Research Conference
8-14/06/2024
Great science, great people, great all around!!! I spent the week at the Marine Microbes Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) and Gordon Research Conference (GRC), which was probably the best week I have had this year.
Additionally, I was voted to co-organize the next GRS with Dr. Taylor Priest in Barcelona from
6-7 June 2026.
My goal will be to acquire funding for several ECOPs that work in marine microbiology in the Global South, so if you are the CEO of a large company willing to support this cause please send me a message! ;-)
New paper in Environmental Microbiology
24/01/2024
I am a co-author of a new paper in the journal Environmental Microbiology, which investigated the links between DOM and microbes. Lots and lots of sleepless nights taking the samples but it turned into such an amazing publication!

New paper in Environmental Science & Technology
06/05/2024
I am a co-author of a new paper in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, which investigated the links between DOM and sea-spray aerosol production in Eastern Arctic Waters.

Ready, Set, Action!
08/04/2024 - 13/04/2024
Ocean Decade let's get started! Climate change is becoming our reality, but instead of more scientists, we need everyone else to get involved. The Ocean Decade Conference 2024 was the delayed start to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, a 10-year framework from 2021 to 2030. I was humbled to represent ECOPs from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and slightly nervous but committed to asking questions to enhance engagement of early careers in all fields "Can you give specific examples of how ECOPs in your program?". We need everyone and if you want to get involved please engage with us on our LinkedIn or via germany@ecopdecade.org
Thank you Prof. Dr. Werner Petersen Foundation

WOW! I was among the early career scientists recognized for her excellent PhD thesis and awarded the Young Talent Award by the Prof. Dr. Werner Petersen Foundation. The Prof. Dr. Werner Petersen Foundation awards scholarships, knowledge transfer prizes, and young talent prizes to doctoral theses. The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel published a press release about the ceremony. Thank you for recognizing our work!
